From a Campus Whiteboard to a Nationwide Interoperability Platform
Medicom was founded in 2015 at North Carolina State University by Michael Rosenberg, Malcolm Benitz, and Jason Suttles. Fueled by their own frustrating experiences as patients and insights from clinicians, they saw a system hobbled by a simple, solvable problem: critical data couldn't get where it was needed, when it was needed.
They recognized that the CDs, VPNs, and disconnected systems weren't just an inconvenience—they were a direct barrier to better care and faster research. Their solution was not just another tool, but a foundational platform for interoperability, designed from day one to connect the entire healthcare ecosystem and unlock the true potential of its data.

At Medicom, we began with a simple but critical goal: to solve the challenges of cross-institution exchange of priors in outpatient oncology. Fast forward to today, and that mission has grown into a comprehensive enterprise imaging platform dedicated to making interoperability workflows seamless and intuitive.
Our software isn’t just another tool; it’s a platform that rationalizes out other applications, brings workflows directly into the EHR to reduce change management barriers, and leverages AI to make adoption easier.
This evolution and growth is a testament to the incredible team we have at Medicom, but also to the invaluable feedback, guidance, and partnerships we have with our customers. Together, we’ve grown from addressing a single challenge into building a robust platform that spans entire healthcare delivery networks, -ologies, patient use-cases, and research.
As an industrial and systems engineer by training, I’m passionate about optimizing complex processes, and it’s been an incredible journey collaborating across our teams and with leading healthcare provider organizations to get to where we are today.
